Services

Services start at about 11am on Sunday.

Services usually begin with about 30 minutes all together where we sing, pray and share news and a short reflection. Followed by about 30 minutes where in many services the children and young people can be in age-appropriate groups, sometimes this is slightly longer if we have communion in this time. Sermons for the main service aim to help us understand the passage from the Bible in its original context and then reflect upon its implications about how we live in our complex world. While everyone is welcome to join in with any interactive elements to our services, you are also welcome to observe if preferred.

We are relaxed in our clothing, from jeans and jumpers to beautiful dresses depending on the occasion. You are welcome to come as you are. (No pyjamas though please!)

Likewise, children are very welcome, we have some toys and mats in an area to the side of the main congregation, and we cope if they want to join in with leading the service occasionally! In some services we have percussion instruments to play as we sing along with the piano. Our song choices range from old favourites and classic hymns to more modern worship music.

Our services normally have a mixture of worship approaches, with songs, prayers, readings from the Bible, sometimes we add some drama or questions and answers and discussions. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries; we rejoice in baptisms and share our stories.

Refreshments always follow the service, and this is where you get a real sense of Brandon’s warmth, fellowship, cake providing activities and long-term commitment to community with one another in our inner-city environment.

A collection for the work of the church and the kingdom is taken in each service for those who are regular attenders, however, there is no pressure to give, especially as a visitor. At certain times of the year when we celebrate events like Harvest, Christmas and our church anniversary at these times we hold an additional collection for people to give towards donations to other charities. Over the last couple of years, we have given to the work of Operation Agri, Tearfund, Pecan, Embrace the Middle East, Mines Advisory Group and Ascension Trust.

The pattern our Sundays follow except for special events is:

First Sunday: All Age Communion (we have communion earlier in the service and children are offered biscuits)

Second Sunday: Normal service

Third Sunday: Communion

Forth Sunday: All Age Service (children stay in the service and are welcome to play – toys and colouring are available)
